Did you know that aliens came to Indiana nearly 40 years ago?

According to a classic movie written and directed by Steven Spielberg in 1977, two airplanes had a close encounter of the first kind (a sighting) with a UFO over Indianapolis, and Hoosiers had a close encounter of the second kind (physical evidence) with an alien craft in Muncie shortly thereafter.

On Thursday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Royal Theater in Danville, aliens return to Indiana when the Kiwanis Club of Danville brings us "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" in its latest installment of Kiwanis Klassic Family Movie Night.

“Close Encounters of the Third Kind” stars Richard Dreyfuss as Roy Neary -- a Hoosier electrical lineman who, while investigating a massive power outage, has a close encounter with a UFO. Neary becomes obsessed with UFO's and eventually embarks on an adventure that culminates in a close encounter of the third kind:  contact with alien life.

This movie is rated PG and has a 137-minute run time. It also stars Teri Garr and Lance Henriksen and includes a cameo appearance by Jerry Garcia of the band The Grateful Dead.
