![]() Placing fifth at state competition is something to celebrate! That’s why Plainfield Optimist Club reached out to Mr. Chris Cavanaugh, sponsor of Plainfield High School’s We The People team, in late December looking for a way to honor students for their achievement. The student government group was one of twelve Indiana high schools competing in the state finals held December 14-16 in Indianapolis. Students responded to questions about the U.S. Constitution before a panel of judges including lawyers, professors and members of the judiciary. The group excelled, taking 5th place in the competition.

The inaugural Hendricks County Youth Sports Fair is right around the corner! Make plans to be at the Danville Community High School auxiliary gym this Saturday (Jan. 24) between 1 and 5 p.m. to see me, Meghan Stritar from Macaroni Kid-Hendricks, and all of these great vendors!
![]() Danville schools have had two weather-related cancellations so far this winter, and it was recently announced that those missed school days would be made up on Friday, May 29 and Monday, June 1 rather than on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Presidents' Day. I've noticed some parents asking on social media about why Danville kids aren't going to school on those two holidays instead of tacking the days on to the end of the school year, so I went to tonight's Danville school board meeting and asked. ![]() GUEST BLOGGER BETH CRAWFORD For the first time, on Friday 1/9/15, we loaded up my son’s BMX bike in the backseat and rolled out to find the Awakening Youth Skatepark at The Blended Church, 2215 Country Club Rd. Just barely across the Marion County line, many Hendricks County BMX and skateboard riders began streaming in to take advantage of the ramps set up once a month by youth pastor Jeremy Plumley. His enthusiasm for the youth who ride BMX and skateboarders has led him to work to get the gym/recreation area of his church transformed into a skatepark to provide free riding from 6pm-12 on the 2nd Friday of every month. With a stage for a band, ping-pong table, foosball tables and bleachers for spectators, the gymnasium area transforms into the skatepark that gives otherwise cooped up teens and young adults a place to ride while temps outside make it impossible. ![]() The inaugural Hendricks County Youth Sports Fair has added a very special attraction to the event! The youth sports fair, brought to you by They're Our Kids and Macaroni Kid - Hendricks, is coming to Danville Community High School on Saturday, Jan. 24 from 1 to 5 p.m. and will now include an appearance by the Indiana Pacers Fan Van! ![]() We are fast approaching the season for Daddy-Daughter Dances, Mother-Son activities and other similar types of family events, and there are a number of them to choose from in Hendricks County this year. Here are the ones that we have found so far, but this is a constantly updated list, so feel free to add a comment to alert us to any events that we overlooked, and check back frequently for updates! ![]() I have a few New Year's resolutions for They're Our Kids in 2015, so let's start in the most logical place: No. 1. My first resolution is to get more help with TOK in the form of additional bloggers to cover more of Hendricks County for The Village. Are you a Villager who likes to write?
