An annual event in Danville is fast approaching: the Danville Elementary PTO Winter Festival. This year's event will be held on Saturday, Feb. 21 from 1-5 p.m. at Danville South Elementary School.
This is an event that my kids and I make a point to attend every year, as my kids always thoroughly enjoy the games and the bounce houses, and I enjoy the opportunity to see friends and meet new people while also learning about businesses and organizations within the community.
Plus, it raises funds for a great organization that further benefits OUR KIDS.
The Winter Festival is hosted by the Danville Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization, which provides much-needed funding to teachers and kids at Danville North Elementary School and Danville South Elementary School.
Through the fundraising efforts of the Danville Elementary PTO, money is given to teachers for classroom supplies, playground equipment, teacher appreciation events and more. The PTO also works hard to keep Danville parents informed of what's going on in the elementary schools, the education system and the community in general.
For the Winter Festival, parents can purchase wristbands for their kids in advance for $10 a piece. Wristbands are also sold at the door for $12 a piece. To pre-order wristbands, simply fill out this form and return it with your payment to your child's teacher no later than Wednesday, Feb. 18.
For the kids, there are bounce houses and games galore at the Danville Winter Festival. My kids always have a blast there and wear themselves out.
For the adults, there are over 20 local vendors who will be providing information about their programs or offering items for sale. Some of these vendors include Usborne Books, Poppy Blossom Hair Bows, Sew Fun Doll Clothes, For the Beauty of the Earth, The Cross-Eyed Cow, and a vendor you may have heard about once or twice before: They're Our Kids.
There's also good eats for sale by Courthouse Grounds' Mabel on the Move trailer.
Additionally, the Indiana Blood Center will be set up in the art room of South Elementary, allowing OUR KIDS the opportunity to learn a valuable lesson about giving to others as their parents donate blood to Hoosier patients in need. OUR KIDS who encourage an adult to give blood at the event will also receive an Indiana Blood Center sports water bottle.
(Dads, spend the evening with your daughters after the Danville Winter Festival at the Kiwanis Club of Danville's Daddy-Daughter Dance from 6-8 p.m. at Danville Community Middle School! For more information on this event, click here.)
